About us

I started the salon with a loan from the Princes Youth Business Trust in April 1993 with the aim of bringing a city style salon to the Cotswolds. We quickly built up a reputation as specialists in designer colouring and contemporary cutting.

When we first train as hairdressers we are taught how to use chemicals safely and creatively, but we don’t really question what we are using and how it might affect the person we use it on. It wasn’t until I became pregnant with my first child and realised that 60 to 80% of what you put on the skin is absorbed into the body that I became more aware about what I put on myself and also what we use on our clients. At this point I started to research and source alternative products and found some fantastic certified organic hair products and gentler colour ranges.

We became an organic salon in 1999 and started to design methods of colouring that were gentler on the body as well as the hair. As it was important not to loose our artistic license, we needed a wide choice of colours that would achieve the desired results. We are therefore constantly researching new products as they are being developed to assure we have the best and most organic product ranges for use in the salon and in our retail shop.

We currently employ 12 members of staff at Spirit to ensure every stage of your visit is of an unmatched customer service level. I feel that the concept of Spirit Organic Hairdressing is a very exiting one that is constantly evolving and growing. Having established a good grounding for our concept our plans for the future would be to bring this choice to as many people as possible.
